Contracts
Existing contracts remain valid and require no amendment. However, future contract approvals, Master Service Agreement (MSA) renewals, and RFP awards will now require four votes for a majority rather than a consensus of an even-numbered board. Adjust your lobbying and negotiation strategies to account for this seventh vote.
Hiring/Training
No internal training is required for general association members. However, if your organization encourages leadership to serve on the Board, they must be briefed on the new "At-Large" residency requirement, which differs from the precinct-specific requirements of the other six seats.
Reporting & Record-Keeping
Candidate Affidavit: Any individual seeking this office (via appointment or election) must file a sworn affidavit with the Calhoun Port Authority.
- Requirement: The affidavit must attest that the candidate is a bona fide resident of the district and a qualified voter who owns real property in the Port Authority’s jurisdiction.
- Documentation: Candidates must be prepared to produce property deeds and voter registration cards to substantiate the affidavit.
Fees & Costs
There are no direct statutory fee increases. However, the addition of a seventh commissioner eliminates tie-votes, potentially accelerating decisions on tariff adjustments or channel maintenance fees.
